Poker is popular all over the world. It combines principles of card games known hundreds of years ago in Europe and probably long before that in the Orient, but in its present form it is distinctly of American origin. There are many variations of Poker, but they differ mostly in details and all follow the same basic principles. You will find no problems if you know and understand the main principles of the game. Poker is a game of betting as to which player holds the best hand. In most cases, best hand contains the five highest-ranking cards, but what is considered the best hand can vary in some types of Poker. When playing High/Low poker there can be two players, who can win and then split the pot. Both the player with the highest hand and the player with the lowest hand are winners. Players make their bets and put the chips in the center of the table, which is called a pot. If you don’t want to meet the highest bet by some other player you can’t compete for the pot. Because of this rule, players are able to bluff and win the pot. To win the pot is the objective of the game. There are two ways of winning the pot.
When all the bets are made by the players, they show down their cards. The player who has the strongest hand is the winner. If one of the players make a bet, which is not met by other players, he wins the pot without showing his cards. A 52-card deck is used in the game of Poker. The cards are dealt one at a time, clockwise motion (number of cards varies with game). Aces are high, but aces rank low in the sequence A-2-3-4-5. Online American Poker History.
